“Sure, rewards are nice, but it’s secretly about the gold.”

After a session is hosted (or before for planning purposes), all loot whether mundane or magic is to be recorded in the session-log once the downtime days are rolled, except in the case of non-canon that awards 8 days. For non-canon, minor and PBP quests, the log must be posted in 24 hours.

    • XP is calculated as 75 x Hours Played x Level.

Higher tiered players playing on lower tiered session will take half XP for hours played but are only permitted to join if the Dungeon Master permits.

    • Level is referring to the character’s current canon level. For non-canon games, players take half of the hours played. Use the XP calculator to determine XP amount.

Four Types of Games Ran

Canon Sessions

Most popular sessions hosted, that allow the altering and changing of the world. These award a variety of awards, either positive or negative. Only current approved characters may participate in these sessions.

These sessions award the following after 2 hours:

    • Full hour XP.
    • 10-16 Downtime Days
    • Gold, magic items and/or other rewards, dependent on the total hour amount per the reward standard and gold budget.

Dungeon Master’s receive:

    • Full hour XP
    • Double downtime.
    • 50 GP/Hour

Non-Canon (NC)

2nd most popular type of sessions ran. These are hosted by Trial Dungeon Masters. Non-cannon sessions do not affect the world and any character may participate in these, regardless of tier. These sessions are extremely useful for testing out possible, future builds.

    • Every once in a while, non-canons will award full XP, rather than half.

These sessions award the following after 2-hours:

    • Half hour XP
    • 8 Downtime Days
    • No gold, magic items or rewards may be kept.

Dungeon Master’s receive:

    • Full hour XP
    • Double downtime.
    • 50 GP/Hour

Minor Sessions

These sessions are often used for resolving downtime complications and to give character development. These are not meant to be longer than 2 hours. A session log is still required for these.

These sessions award the following:

    • Up to 2-hours of XP
    • No downtime.
    • No gold, magic items or rewards.

Dungeon Master’s receive:

    • Up to 2 Hours XP
    • No gold bonus.

Text Roleplay Quests¹ (TRP) NEW!

Quests that take place in text roleplay (TRP). These sessions usually may only allow 2-4 player to participate. Rare occasions will permit a dungeon master to allowing more on the quest. These can either happen in the TRP Forum or in certain TRP channels (excluding Wayfinder, Message Board and The Guild.

    • Players may not play in more than one TRP quest at a time.
    • Dungeon Masters may only run one at a time.

No XP, downtime (or gold bonus) is awarded to these quests. However, messages count towards the monthly message count for XP.

    • Excessive OOC or unauthorized players attempting to interact will get timed-out at dungeon master’s discretion.
    • Max gold budget for TRP quests is 200 GP. Common Magic items may be awarded, as long as the budget does not exceed the maximum.

Dungeon Master’s receive no rewards. Session logs are still required.

Please use the Session Log Generator for assistance on how what is needed for the session log. Failure to add the necessary needed information will result in the log being flagged by @Admin.

    • Here are two generators for gold based on individual or individual with items by CR encounter.
    • Items of lower tiers may be given on higher tiers once the hour amount is reached.

Rewards may be carried over to a 2nd part of the same session, if no gold/items/loot is given on part 1, aside from DM pot bonus (max 2 parts).

      • To rollover rewards, the session log must state something along the lines of “Giving on PT 2” or “No rewards, rolling over to PT 2.”
    • Any magic item with a mundane equivalent must be accounted for, buy offsetting the cost using allocated gold funds, or pot.
      • Example: Cast-Off Studded Leather. Common rarity (no cost) + Mundane Value (45 GP)

Using the chart below determines the max gold and items a DM may award the session as a whole. This chart is broken down by player count of what magic items of that tier may be given. To determine session, multiply the PLAYER x HOUR x TIER for the total gold.

    • If multi-tier, do this formula for the individual ones.
    • To calculate the total budget allocated for the session, use the gold budget calculator.

In the case of mixed tiers, the following format example should be followed to properly follow magic item rewards.

    • A 6-hour, 5 player game (2 players in T3, 3 players in T2) will result in the max items allocated for the session:
      • Gold Budget: 2 x 1200 (T3) + 3 x 200 (T2) = 3,000 x 6 Hours = 18,000 GP
      • MAX Magic Items permitted in session: 2 Rares, 3 Uncommon, 6 Common

This chart reflects the budget of gold and magic items a Dungeon Master may award on a session. If a T2 tags along on a T3 game, they cannot be awarded a rare, even if the game goes over the minimum hour count needed to award. In the event a rare is given out, the cost of the rare must be covered by the session budget and DM pot.

Tier Max Gold per Player2 Max Items per Player2,3 Downtime
T1 – Lv. 1-4 50 x Hour 1 Common per 3 Hours 2d4 + 8
T2 – Lv. 5-9 200 x Hour 1 Uncommon per 4 Hours 2d4 + 8
T3 – Lv. 10-14 1,200 x Hour 1 Rare per 5 Hours 2d4 + 8
T4 – Lv. 15-20 3,000 x Hour 1 Very Rare per 5 Hours 2d4 + 8
Non-Canon (Half XP) None. None. 8
Minor (up to 2 Hour of XP) None. None. None.
Play-By-Post Quest1 (1 Hour XP) Up to 200gp worth for the party Requires 2 players, max 4. None.

Full Dungeon Masters have a monthly pot of 100 units that refresh every month, and do not roll over. The amount must be stated in the session log of how much pot has been used in excess of the gold and items awarded above. This pot is not per player, but an overall collective amount.

    • Limited to a max of 15 pot/game.4

Example: Spending 3 units of pot in a T3 game results in there being 97/100 left, with a collective amount of 3,600 GP added to the collective pot of the session.

Tier5 Pot Multiplier
1 50 GP
2 200 GP
3 1,200 GP
4 3,000 GP

Footnotes

      1. TRP sessions are posted in #session-announcement with the TRP role pinged. Sessions take place in the TRP forum, or appropriate chat, if being unused.
      2. Max rewards should not be confused with guaranteed. Some sessions will or will not award gold or items. This chart is merely the max limit a Full Status Dungeon Master may award that is based on how many players in the session play.
        • Example: If 2 T2 and 3 T1 players join a game, the MAX items that can be distributed are 2 Uncommon and 5 Common items.
      3. Consumable items count as half a magic item. To fulfill a single item rarity, two consumables = 1. Scrolls are not included in this and are counted as a full rarity slot.
      4. Items may not constantly be awarded above tier per session. I.e. Rare to T2, Very Rare to T3. If such happens, DM pot will be used to cover the higher cost magic item. If the amount cannot be covered by pot completely, the item(s) get taken away.
        • Awarding above permitted reward limits will result in item being removed and DM forfeiting rewards gained.
      5. For mixed tiers, the tier that appears the most (mode) is the modifier. If the tier amounts are even, the lower tier modifier is taken.

Additional Notes

Going over the allocated limit will result in excess gold being deducted from the pot automatically (whether extra magic items or mundane are awarded.)

    • When pot reaches 0, any amount excess over will be automatically removed with rewards forfeited.
    • Dungeon Masters are expected to manage their own budget prior to hosting the session.
    • To calculate the expenses of the session, use the gold calculator.
